Guide Right is a program for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Its reach extends to high schools and colleges alike. In the latter, giving due attention to the needs of undergraduate Brothers.

A component of Guide Right is the “Kappa League.” Kappa League, originally founded as the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, has been around for over fifty years. It was created as a social action project in 1970, by Brother Mel Davis, then of the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. Kappa League is a program for the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 5th-12th. Kappa League provides both challenging and rewarding experiences to enhance the lives of the participants.

Norristown Alumni has played a strong role in the guidance of the youth of the Montgomery County area. Having worked with East Norriton and Roosevelt Middle Schools, Norristown’s Kappa League initiative has provided programs to promote interest in Engineering and Science related fields by demonstrating various scientific experiments dealing with chemical reactions. In 2006, the initiative was expanded to the West Chester area School District.

Now, the resurgence of Norristown’s Kappa League program will be established at Blockson Middle School, initially serving 5th – 8th graders. Students will be exposed to topics such as: Self-Identity/Appearance, Competition and Nutrition, Leadership, and Cultural Awareness. Students will meet twice a month beginning in March.

The group will also learn how to operate as an enterprise and will adopt organizational and business processes such as Roberts’ Rules of Order when running meetings. The young men will engage in formal elections for officers. Through their leadership teams and mentor sponsors, the Kappa Leaguers will apply these processes within their school and community.
